CROW´S NEST

2021

The Styrian organization TANNO  tasked participants with designing a lookout tower using a specific regional product: spruce wood.

Inspired by the historical use of spruce for ship masts, the architectural response closely follows the principles and forms of shipbuilding.

The tower's design is based on a living spruce tree, which not only symbolizes the mast but also supports the entire structure made of the same material. A light, organic roof, evoking the illusion of a sail, completes the lookout tower's form.

The name of the tower refers to the crow's nest, a term used in maritime language for the platform at the top of a ship's mast.

This project was awarded first place in the TANNO school competition 2021.
